This process would be considerably faster and easier if Zotero could tell me for Word document xyz which sources I used in that document from that library. This means that in order to have a clean bibliography, it becomes necessary to go through the meta data of the sources I cited and make corrections. But as we all know, there are always situations where this info is either incomplete, inconsistent, or altogether missing.
When importing literature, Zotero (or any software) will help me a bit by filling in some meta info already.
I think all of this is quite standard and unsurprising. This means that I will inevitably have considerably more sources in Zotero than what I end up using for what I'm writing (ratio of 1:3, maybe).

When doing literature review, I like to proceed in a funnel where I browse through dozens or hundreds of sources on different search engines, read the abstract of a small portion of the papers, download and import into Zotero only a small portion of the remaining papers and actually fully read and cite just the really important ones.
